thumb-latch that will keep your mailbox tightly closed and protected from the weather, but will allow you easy access to your mail. And if the time comes that you feel you need more security, you can swap the latch back for the lock.

DISCLAIMER: These and other mailbox styles with a 2-1/2" high mail flap, while just their presence will usually discourage mail theft, it is not restrictive enough to prevent a small childlike hand from entering through the flap. However, if the mailbox is mounted at the proper height, entering a hand through the flap and reaching to the bottom of the mail compartment is very difficult and uncomfortable for the intruder, which usually ends their invasion.
